After the World War II countries like USA, UK, France, Germany, Austria, Japan and other European countries assigned a very high priority to the social sectors namely education and health. After the world war was over these countries appear to derive benefits of their approach of assigning priority to education. As a result these countries transformed into the category of developed world. Education has helped the countries in many ways like: there is advancement in science, engineering and technology and improvement in quality of life. All these factors enabled the countries to survive in the competitive world.
Pakistan as a developing country also needs to follow the same course. There is every reason to have good education base to rise to the global situation. The young generation with good education can transform a nation and can bring Pakistan at par with the developed world. Education as a top priority was the underlying idea that ultimately lead Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys (AMUOBA) to sponsor and establish Sir Syed University to impart education in impart education in science and engineering.
Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology is one of the most reputed institutions for engineering education. University serves entire country as students not only come from Karachi but also a large number of students from Sindh, Baluchistan Kyber Pakhtoon KP Giligit Baltistan, Swat Peshawar and Punjab seek admission in Sir Syed University. Admission policy of university is transparent and merit based. Over the past two decades university has progressively grown from 200 students when university first started and now there being nearly 6000 students studying various disciplines.
Each year a large number of students are admitted where as many as 11 professional fields are offered to students for selection depending upon their choice and merit. University is centrally located and easily accessible from any where in the city. University has provided suitable environment for learning and research. Classrooms are air conditioned with facilities of overhead projector and multi-media. Labs are well equipped with latest equipment. There is a central library with more than 100,000 books. Courses aim to provide students with latest knowledge, analytical approach, capacity building for design; use of computer facilities. Emphasis is laid upon modern engineering practices. At the same time creativity and problem resolving skills in students is encouraged. University undertakes efforts to turn out proficient graduates who should be technically, morally and ethically sound. I welcome new entrants of Batch 2017 to University. The new entrants are the fortunate ones as a large majority of candidates who were interested to join this university could not get admission. I advise students to gain as much knowledge as you can. Hope students will follow the rules and regulations of university. All students must effectively utilize facilities offered by university and equip themselves with best know how of the subjects they study.
